Our Wine-Making Journey
It all began about six years ago when a friend gifted us a few vines, both red and white, with the grape types unknown. Eager to try our hand at something new, we started making wine. The results were drinkable but far from refined. This early experience was a stepping stone, sparking our curiosity and deepening our appreciation for the craft.
Shortly after, we moved to Hoograven and discovered an old grapevine in our garden. This vine, with its mysterious origins, became the heart of our wine-making efforts. Year after year, we continued to make wine from its grapes, though we never quite achieved the great results we hoped for. Nevertheless, the process taught us a lot about patience, experimentation, and the unpredictability of nature.
A few years ago, our friend gave us a root from one of their original vines, which turned out to be the white wine variety. We planted it, nurtured it, and watched as it flourished in our garden. This year, the vine finally produced enough grapes for us to experiment with once more.
Combining these grapes with others grown locally within our family, we embarked on a new project: creating our first white dessert wine. The result is a very sweet, yet distinct wine that stands out with its unique flavor profile. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much there is still to learn.
Through this journey, we’ve gained a profound respect for winemakers. The dedication, knowledge, and artistry required to produce great wine are truly impressive. We now savor a good glass of wine with even more appreciation, understanding the hard work and passion that goes into every bottle.
For now, our wine-making remains a delightful experiment, a blend of tradition, curiosity, and the joy of creating something new. We look forward to more adventures in our garden and beyond, and we’re excited to share them with you.
